Charles C. Petty

Charles C. Petty, 97, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Carmel Hills, Independence, MO.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7th at the Oak Grove Christian Church; burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church.  Contributions may be made to the Oak Grove Christian Church or the Show-Me Christian Youth Home in La Monte, MO.

Charles was born October 23, 1923, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of James and Olive (Hill) Petty.  He grew up in Corder, Missouri, and married Susie Manning on November 29, 1947.  Charles served in the U.S. Army and Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in Ireland, England, Germany, Switzerland and Great Britain. He and Susie moved to Oak Grove in 1955 and he retired from Honeywell in 1987.  Charles was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Oak Grove, the Oak Grove Historical Society, and the Oak Grove Christian Church where he was also an Elder.  He was also involved in 4-H, Boy Scouts, and Youth for Christ, and he helped hold church services on Sunday mornings at the nursing home.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Susie; his parents; one brother; two sisters; and three grandchildren: Danny, Brenda, and Charlie.

His survivors include two daughters: Carolyn Perry of Oak Grove, MO, and Cheryl Eison of Independence, MO; son, Steven Petty of Oregon; two grandchildren: Bobby Eison and Clifton Perry; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
