Charles R. Layman

Charles Richard Layman (Tarsie) 88, former resident of Oak Grove Manor Apartments passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Centerpoint Hospital in Independence, Missouri.

Charles was born on May 26, 1933, in Portageville, Missouri to Walter Monroe Layman and Mary Louise (Hall) Layman. He was the youngest of six children born to the couple, all of whom have preceded him in death.

He met his wife, Rebecca (Avila) Layman while working as an Accredited Nurse Aide at Evangelical Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. They were married in Chicago on May 11, 1970. They had no children. Rebecca (Becky) passed away on July 9, 2015.

Affectionately known as “Tarsie”, he was an integral part of his sister Margaret’s family. He was ever present as we, her children, grew into adulthood.

Charles had a witty, dry sense of humor that never failed to produce unexpected and spontaneous laughter. He loved plants and animals and had a lifelong interest in raising chickens. He was also an avid bargain hunter constantly exploring yard sales and thrift stores looking for “treasures”.

Charles is survived by his nieces and nephew: Joseph Richard Bradlo, Everett WA Cynthia L. Diggs, Grain Valley, MO Susan T. Davidson, Lenexa, KS Paula Maribeth Morgan, Independence, MO Abbigail VanOverloop, Warrenton, MO Numerous great and great, great nieces and nephews including Jamie Amick of Florida.

Predeceased by his beloved niece Rebecca Marie Bradlo.

Charles will be cremated at Royer’s Funeral Home in Oak Grove, Missouri. His ashes along with those of his wife will be interred at Dogwood Cemetery in Blytheville, Arkansas. There he will lie among many of his family members who have gone before him.
