
Gerald “Gary” L. Wallace
Gerald “Gary” Lee Wallace, 69, of Independence, Missouri passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016, at home with his family. According to his wishes, Gary was cremated. There will be a celebration of his life at his hometown in Knightsville, Indiana, at a date to be determined.
Gary was from Knightsville, Indiana. He graduated from Van Buren High School in 1966 and he enlisted in the army the same year. His expertise was Avionics. On December 24, 1966, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Saundra Kay (Garrison) Wallace. Gary served in Vietnam during 1967-1968, at Chu Lai. After Vietnam, he was stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama, where his son Michael was born in 1969. Upon his discharge from the army, he went to work for Sutherland Lumber in Indianapolis, Indiana. His daughter Dena was born shortly after in Greencastle, Indiana, in 1970. Gary worked for Sutherland Lumber for 47 years before retiring from his position in management at the regional office in Kansas City, Missouri in 2013. He enjoyed restoring old cars, electronics and wood working.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby L. and Betty Wallace of Knightsville, and a brother, Ronald Wallace of Brazil, Indiana.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Saundra K. Wallace of Independence; one son, Michael Lee Wallace of Des Moines, Iowa and his daughter, Kayeleena; one daughter, Dena Wallace of Des Moines, Iowa, her daughter, Candace, and Candace’s son, Enzo Lee; two brothers: Bob (Mary) Wallace of Carbon Indiana, and Tim (Louwanna) Wallace of Dana, Indiana; one sister, Sharon (Bob) Orman of Knightsville; and several nieces and nephews.
