Jack Lamb, June 14, 1953 – August 23, 2021

Jack, 68, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2021. A virtual service will be live-streamed Monday, August 30, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. and can be viewed on Facebook, Account: Dustin Lamb. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask you to consider a donation to igsasoftball.com in honor of Jack’s love for coaching and youth sports or any charity of your choosing.

Jack was born in Harrison, Arkansas but spent most of his childhood in Independence, Missouri. He graduated from William Chrisman High School and attended Central Missouri State University where he played baseball and earned an Associate of Science in Mathematics. He worked at Armco Steel for several years before he returned to school. He was accepted into the accelerated program at DeVry University, made the Dean’s list and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, while working two jobs, supporting his family, and avoiding sleep. Jack began his career with the federal government at the Department of Commerce and retired as a Project Manager for the Federal Aviation Administration in 2019. He was well known for his work ethic, dedication, and determination to get things done.

Jack met Cindy Fulton on his cousin’s blind date and instantly knew that he would marry her. On March 2, 1974, they married at Glenwood Park United Methodist Church. They settled in Buckner, Missouri and raised their daughter, Melissa and son, Dustin. Jack was well known in his neighborhood and could often be found playing basketball and street football with the kids. His pure love and dedication to youth sports was demonstrated in his 37 years of coaching and his service to the Buckner recreation association, BORA. As President, Jack was very instrumental in growing the league to 49 teams and insistent on creating scholarships so that any child that wanted to play, would play.

Later in life, Jack enjoyed long fishing trips to Canada with the most wonderful of friends. He became a member of a slot-car racing club and traveled the country racing. He built and perfected his dream track in the basement and often held races for his club. He thought so highly of the men he raced with and valued his friendships so much.

If you gave Jack a second of your time, then you knew about his grandkids, Hailey, Larson and Nicholas. He was so proud of them; they were the apples of his eye. He bragged endlessly about Hailey’s softball, Larson’s soccer, and Nicholas’ trumpet. He delighted in their accomplishments and because they lived close, he was able to spend so much time with them. They were his buddies and his very best friends. Papa Jack was the most wonderful grandpa and trouble-making partner-in-crime. He often needed a seat next to them when a time-out was called for.

Other random facts about Jack: he was an Eagle Scout, loved his daughter’s Bullmastiff, Moose, was looking forward to trying his son’s pellet grill. He adored his nephews, Mark and Matt Kelsey, and his BFF, Vickie. He accepted the Lord as his savior and spoke of his spiritual journey. He would give anybody the shirt off of his back. He was Jack; a man of his word, insistent on handshakes, and believed in keeping a good name. He was so loved and will be greatly missed.

Jack is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cindy, and dog, Cooper, of the home; daughter, Melissa and son, Dustin; and three grandchildren that were the joys of his life, Hailey Kay, Larson Michael, and Nicholas John.

Jack was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ernest and Juanita Lamb, and sister, Catherine Hibbard.
