
James H. Russell
James Henry Russell, 87, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16th at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, MO; burial in Koger Cemetery, Oak Grove. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Jim was born February 17, 1929, in Independence, Missouri, the son of James E. and Kathryn D. (Hiller) Russell. He was a 1947 graduate of William Chrisman High School, where he played football. Jim joined the Paratroopers in 1948. He was a contractor and built homes for many years. He loved to hunt and fish.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James A. Russell; and one brother, Howard Russell.
His survivors include his wife of 68 years, Margaret Russell of the home; one daughter, Karen Mitchell of Independence; three grandchildren: James R. Mitchell of Kansas City, MO, Brandon (Sarah) Wallace of Olathe, KS, and Stephanie (Steven) Denk of Buckner, MO; six great-grandchildren: Cora, Brielle, Ashley, Brittany, Colton, and Easton; four great great-grandchildren: Clarissa, Jackson, Avery, and Graham; one brother, Robert Lee (Mary Francis) Russell; and many nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
