Dwight was born May 29, 1935, in Hatfield, Arkansas, the son of Elbert E. and Opal I. (McDonald) Joplin. Following graduation from Hatfield High School in 1953, he jumped a train bound for Kansas City to look for a better life. Well done. Dwight began his career at Hallmark Cards, married Sylvia A. Pigg, and settled in Blue Springs. After enduring 35 years at Hallmark, he enjoyed over 25 years of retirement, continuing his passions of collecting, tinkering with clocks, spending time with his family, and a good steak or hamburger.
Dwight’s survivors include his wife, Sylvia Joplin of the home; daughter, Janice Longfellow (Jody) of Lee’s Summit, MO; son, Michael Joplin (Jennifer) of Greenwood, MO; and brother, Carroll Joplin (Ann) of Claremore, OK. Grandpa Tick-Tock is also survived by five grandchildren: Nicole Harper (Andrew), Ashly Green (Matt), Joel Joplin, Steven Joplin, and Emilee Longfellow; four great-grandchildren: Fiona, Amelia, Miles, and Sweeney; and his beloved dog, Jasper.
