Kenneth S. Akers

September 2, 1930 – March 24, 2021.

Kenneth Shelby Akers, of Independence, MO. passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home March 24th at the age of 90.

Kenneth served as Quarter Master in the Korean War. He married Joyce Alber November 7, 1953.  He worked for Standard Oil Refinery 40 years retiring in 1989.  He was a great man and a wonderful grandfather to many.  Kenneth was talented, disciplined and a hard worker. He loved his pontoon at Lake Jacomo, dancing and his friends at American Legion, playing pool, flying remote airplanes and his family.  A friend to all and loved by all who knew him.  Kenneth will be greatly missed. His family and friends are blessed by his amazing example.

Kenneth was preceded in death by the love of his wife Joyce (2002), parents Nora and Albert Akers, his daughter Pam (Steve) Corn and siblings Eleanora Thompson, Juanita Card, Pete, Leroy and Robert Akers.

Kenneth leaves behind daughters Joleen (John) Wisemore, Lee’s Summit, Teresa Jackson, Independence, Janell (Cal) Beck, Louisburg KS, 12 grandchildren, 17 great -grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Family graveside service will be held April 2, 2021 at Woodlawn Cemetery.  There will be a celebration of life for family and friends April 14, 2021, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the American Legion, 16701 E. US Highway 40 Independence.
