Martha A. Sanford

Martha Ann Sanford, 75, of Independence, Missouri passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 11,2023 at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home, Independence, Missouri at 3:00 p.m.  The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at New Salem Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Show Me Christian Youth Home, PO Box 6, Lamonte, MO 65337.

Martha was born on July 3, 1948 in Warrensburg, Missouri daughter of Herbert and Dorothy (Strode) Cunningham. She was a dedicated teacher for over 30 years, a youth basketball coach, and 4-H leader.  Martha was a devoted mother and strong Christian. She was the biggest sports fan that could ever live, especially college football, basketball and professional baseball.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gerald Eugene Sanford and brother, James Cunningham. 

Martha is survived by her son, Gerold Herbert (AmyRose) Sanford of Independence, MO; daughter, Christine Sanford of Kansas City; stepson Jerry (Lana) Sanford of Lee’s Summit, MO; stepdaughter, Cindy Sanford of Holden, MO; stepdaughter Joanne (John) Mahurin of Holden, MO; sister, Mary (Earl) Borgmann of Wellington, MO and brother, Roy Cunningham of Nevada, MO; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
