Randy A. Giffen

Randy Alan Giffen, age 62 was removed from organ support on February 12, 2021 at Centerpoint Hospital, Independence, MO.  For those who would like to honor his memory in recognition of his numerous rescues and adoptions, the family suggests a donation be made in his name to the City of Independence-Animal Shelter Fund through the Truman Heartland Community Foundation. In a private service, his Ashes will be released by his children.  

Randy Alan Giffen was born on June 3 of 1958, to parents Norman Pearl Giffen and Patsy Louise Burns. He attended William Chrisman High School in Independence, MO. By profession, he was a Baker for several years and, later in life, found a career in landscaping much more to his liking. Randy was married for almost 18 years and, during that time, had 7 children; all of whom blessed him with the rare opportunity to remain, in some measure, a child at heart. He was a loving father, grandfather and, overall, a free-spirited person with a passion for the outdoors, bike trails, gardening, recycling and an innate gift for all things mechanical. He was a “Jack of all trades, Master of none” who enjoyed the company of his cats, his music loud, his drones swift and agile, and his jug always filled to the brim and icy cold. His family and friends will always remember him as a hard-working man who started the day before the sun rose and, when the work was done, he never ceased to be active. If not preparing a meal from his garden, he would take off on his bicycle to explore the terrain; from trails, caves, rivers and swimming holes to wooden bridges, historic buildings and places that time seemed to forget, he searched and deeply appreciated his surroundings. He loved chasing storms, sleeping under the stars, observing numerous ‘critters’ in their natural habitats and practicing bird calls. Not to be left behind on any frontier, his sense of adventure was only heightened with his discovery of the internet, Google, smart phones with cameras, videos and “talk to text”.  Randy had an uncanny knack for bringing humor to the mundane without even trying and his laughter broke the ice in many a moment. He was seemingly fearless and ever curious in a world full of mystery and tales yet to be told. Though some would say that he lived a full life, his family would disagree. For them, he was tragically taken far too soon with so many memories left to be made and adventures to be had. Even so, they are grateful for the ones they have. Those will be cherished… Always and Forever. 

Randy Alan Giffen was preceded in death by his father Norman Giffen; his step-father Benjamin Patrick; his mother Patsy (Burns) Patrick; his brothers Stephen Giffen and Eddie Giffen.

Randy Alan Giffen is survived by his three sons Joseph Michael Giffen, of Haslet, TX., Caleb Adlai Giffen, of Independence, MO., Elijah John Giffen, of Owasso, OK; and his four daughters Genesis Elizabeth Giffen, of Grain Valley, MO., and Gabrielle Israel (John C.) Baughman, Rachel Ann Giffen, Hannah Lael Giffen, of Independence, MO. in addition to 15 beautiful grandchildren with 1 more blessing expected to arrive any day and several siblings, nieces and nephews.
